Decent Homes

Barnet Homes aims to bring all homes up to the Decent Homes Plus Standard by April 2011. So far we have completed 8000 properties and are on target to finish on time.

The Decent Homes Standard is defined by the government as a home that meets the  statutory minimum standard for housing with no category 1 health and safety hazards.
For more details see www.communities.gov.uk/publications/housing/203412.

Homes must be in a reasonable state of repair with reasonably modern facilities and services, and a reasonable degree of thermal comfort. This link gives more about the Decent Homes Standard and compliance.

Our three constructor partners delivering the Decent Homes programme are:

  • Balfour Beatty Refurbishment Ltd – for homes in Hendon, Edgware and Mill Hill
  • United House Ltd – for homes in Finchley and Barnet
  • Apollo London Ltd –  who have completed all the work on sheltered housing.

Each has resident liaison officers who visit residents before work starts to discuss any specific needs, the choice of colours and designs, how to prepare and leave contact details. They also check on the progress of work and deal with any issues arising.
