Antisocial behaviour is the bad behaviour of a few that causes problems for other residents. It can be very upsetting for the people who experience it, and we are committed to stopping it. We deal with antisocial behaviour in a number of ways, including working with communities to prevent it from starting or from taking hold.
We take all complaints seriously and will act quickly and decisively. We work with the police and other agencies to take action against perpetrators and support those who are experiencing it.
We will treat any information you give us confidentially and will not use it without your permission. We will work with you to find solutions that are right for your case, either informally through mediation or by taking legal action.
The term antisocial behaviour can mean many different things. It includes all types of behaviour that interfere with you being able to enjoy your home.
Some examples of antisocial behaviour are:
-
Loud music
-
Graffiti or vandalism
-
Problems caused by pets such as noise, fouling or stray animals
-
Drug or alcohol related incidents
-
Actual or threatened violence
-
Persistent arguing and door slamming
-
Car repairs
-
Damage or threatened damage to property
-
Hateful behaviour, gestures and language
Be a good neighbour
You must ensure that you, your family or visitors do not cause, allow or tolerate a nuisance or disturbance to any other people around your home. You must not cause or allow others to harass anyone.
This means you are responsible for the behaviour of every person living in or visiting your home.
If you allow this you are breaching your tenancy conditions and putting your home at risk. Barnet Homes could take legal action against you even if it is a member of your family or visitor who has caused the nuisance.
Neighbours and other residents can annoy you without knowing it, for example by making excessive noise, leaving bags of rubbish around or mending their car outside your door. It is best to deal with this early on by speaking to the person in a calm and friendly way.
Consider how serious the problem really is and remember that most people are irritated by their neighbours at some point. This is part of living close to others and may be just a clash of lifestyles.
If talking to your neighbour has not resolved the problem you can:
Choose one of the property options on the left for the type of property you live in. This will give you more information.
Consider taking legal action yourself. Contact us to discuss the problem by telephone on 0800 3895225
